CPG Online Academy on Human Rights 2023
The Academy
In his Annual Report and Oral Update, presented in March at the 52nd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk referred to the human rights situation in a high number of countries across the globe to warn of “agonizing levels” of contempt the human being in the face of daily occurrence of violence across the globe, with one-quarter of the world’s population living in conflict-affected places.
Along with war and conflict, discrimination, poverty, restrictions on civic space and new digital technologies, as well as the triple planetary crisis – climate, air pollution, and biodiversity loss – present unprecedented threats to human rights, urgently calling for civil society and human rights defenders, state institutions and international organizations to find solutions and take action.
