Programme Description

‘Han’ (한) is a unique Korean emotion containing an ineffable anger that resists articulation or translation. How do you transform your body into a vessel of sorrow, sadness and resentment against injustice?

In this workshop, Artistic Director of the 99 Art Company, Hyerim Jang, breaks down the dance moves of Abyss where beautiful movements of traditional Korean dance are accompanied by paper boats as a metaphor for individuals embodying diverse expressions of ‘han’.

Based on the Korean traditional dance method, learn to stretch, breathe and move alongside Jang as she teaches the choreography of Abyss. Inviting you to unearth personal feelings and stories evoked by the word ‘Han’, peel back the beauty and aesthetic layers of Abyss.

This workshop is recommended for participants aged 16 and above.

This is an intermediate level dance workshop with a limited maximum capacity of 15 participants. Suitable for professional dancers, full-time dance students and serious hobbyists who have been actively training in ballet/contemporary dance.
