Opera company Lirica Arts is back with another major offering to the Singapore audience. This time, it features the operas of Baroque master, Vivaldi, the well-loved and popular composer of the famous renown “FOUR SEASONS”, in a concert with a fantastic cast of Singaporean and international operas singers accompanied by renown local Baroque orchestra RED DOT BAROQUE led by concertmaster Alan Choo.
For the very first time in Singapore, a whole programme of Vivaldi’s operatic music is carefully curated and featured, offering selections from his most well-loved operas as well as his rarely performed works, to his “lost operas” whose manuscripts have been recently rediscovered and brought to light in the past two decades.
The concert promises to be a delight to lovers of Baroque and Vivaldi’s music to indulge in an evening of great music and a display vocal pyrotechnics and virtuosity.

Biography
About Cheng Szu Yun (Taiwan)

Lyric Soprano and winner of 1st prize at the New York International Music Concours, she made her Carnegie Hall debut in 2017. In the same year, she was invited to perform in the Ammerseerenade Klassic Music Festival in Germany. She subsequently made her debut in Rigoletto as Gilda at the Teatro San Babila in Milan. She collaborated with the Marionette Compagnia Carlo Colla & Figli for the production La sposa del sole and Finto torso Gerolamo in Milano. In 2021, she made her debut as Gretel at the National Taichung Theater in Humperdinck’s opera Hansel und Gretel. The Italian newspaper Sempione News lauded her as “The extraordinary and energetic voice with the delicate interpretation (which) made the audience present enthusiastic and enchanted with the music.
About Joyce Lee

Soprano, Joyce Lee Tung’s professional operatic engagements include Frasquita (Bizet’s Carmen) and Zerlina (Mozart’s Don Giovanni – abridged version) with Singapore Lyric Opera; Queen of the Night (Mozart’s The Magic Flute) with Kuala Lumpur City Opera; Marzelline (Beethoven’s Fidelio – abridged version) and Elettra (Mozart’s Idomeneo – film version) with The Opera People and as Tonina and Madame Herz, in Singapore Lyric Opera’s double bill of Mozart’s “Der Schauspieldirektor” and Salier’s “Prima la musica poi le parole”. More recently, she sang the role of Isabella in Rossini’s “L’inganno Felice” with Lirica Arts to critical acclaim and was reviewed as being “an ideal exponent” of the bel canto style.
About Chan Wei En

Wei En Chan’s countertenor is lauded for its “time-stopping” beauty and technical finesse. He leads an active career in Asia and North America performing leading roles in the works of Bach and Handel, and has been a featured artist with numerous organizations including the Singapore International Festival of Art (SIFA), The Opera People (TOP, Singapore), Bachfest Malaysia, Red Dot Baroque (RDB), and many others. Highlights include the title role in Handel’s Oreste with SIFA, conducted by Tian Hui Ng, Bach’s St. Matthew Passion with Bachfest Malaysia, conducted by Dr. David Chin, and Ruggiero in Handel’s Alcina with The Opera People, conducted by Red Dot Baroque’s Alan Choo.
About Martin Ng

Singaporean baritone Martin Ng career highlights include Ping (Turandot) with Singapore Lyric Opera, Holländer (Der Fliegende Holländer) with the Richard Wagner Association of Singapore, Dulcamara (L’elisir d’amore), Amonasro (Aida) with the Lyric Opera of Singapore, Klingsor (Parsifal) with Taiwan’s NSO.
About Rebecca Chellappah

Bristol based Mezzo-soprano’s recent opera roles include the title roles of Bizet’s Carmen (2017) Bristol Opera which won National Opera and Dramatic Association UK Best Operatic production 2018, Helene in La Belle Helene(2019), Rosina in Rossini’s The Barber of Seville (2017) with Tessitoura, Delilah in Saint-Saëns Samson and Delilah Preston Opera(2008) and again with Bristol Opera in (2020) and Popova in Walton’s The Bear (2019). Upcoming opera roles include Marcellina in the Marriage of Figaro with Cardiff Opera in Aug 2021.
About Jonathan McPherson

Jonathan Mark Macpherson began his music education at the age of 7 when he learned to played the cornet in his primary school brass band. He has both a Diploma in Music from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Art and a Bachelor’s of Music with First Class Honours from the Royal College of Music. He has performed in several opera productions, such as New Opera Singapore’s Die Fledermaus, Orfee aux enfer, SSO’s concert production of Carmen, NAFA’s vocal department production of Offenbach’s Les Deux Avuegles as Giraffier, Lîle de Tulipatan as Romboïdal, in Haydn’s La Canterina as Don Pelagio as well as the Singapore Lyric Opera’s productions of: Le Nozze Di Figaro as Don Basilio,Don Giovanni as Don Ottavio, Cosi Fan Tutte as Ferrando and Die Schauspieldirektor as Monsieur Vögelsang . In 2020, he founded the new Early Music Acapella group “5AM”.
About Red Dot Baroque

Inspired by the richness of Baroque music and close friendships, Red Dot Baroque (RDB) was formed by a group of Singaporean musicians dedicated to bringing out the essence and spirit of the Baroque on period instruments. Led by Alan Choo, rotating concertmaster of the Grammy Award-winning Apollo’s Fire Baroque Orchestra, RDB has presented numerous critically-acclaimed programmes in Singapore since 2018 and collaborated with guest soloists from The Netherlands for their first international tour to Malaysia in July 2019. Since 2021, the group has been named Ensemble-in-Residence at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music.
